Michael Stott is the the Latin America Editor at the Financial Times editor based in Brazil and a member of the FT’s editorial board. He covers business, politics and social issues in the region and writes regular columns on Latin America and regional geopolitics.
He launched his career with Reuters, covering historical events in West Germany before reporting extensively in Brazil, Colombia, and Mexico. He later served as Reuters’ bureau chief in Moscow and editor for Europe, Middle East, and Africa. In 2014, he joined the Financial Times.
Michael also held leadership roles at the FT, including UK News Editor and managing editor for Nikkei Asian Review during his secondment to Tokyo—where he led its digital transformation.
An experienced speaker and moderator, Michael participates in events hosted by FT Live, the Inter American Development Bank, CAF, and the Council of the Americas.
He earned his MA in Modern Languages from Cambridge University and is fluent in Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, and Russian, giving him unique access and insight into mass and elite audiences across regions
