Juan Pablo Ángel is a highly regarded Colombian striker who finished his professional career at Atlético Nacional, the club where it all began. He rose to prominence during his time at River Plate (1998–2000), where he became one of the league’s top performers and finished as the leading scorer of the 2000 Apertura tournament.
He then moved to Aston Villa in the English Premier League, becoming the club’s record signing at the time. Later, he continued his career in Major League Soccer with the New York Red Bulls, LA Galaxy, and Chivas USA. He also represented Colombia in multiple World Cup qualifying campaigns, including France (1998), Korea-Japan (2002), and Germany (2006).
Known for his technical skill and sharp instincts in front of goal, Ángel earned a reputation as one of the most effective forwards of his generation and a fan favorite at every club he played for.
In 2014, CONMEBOL honored him as one of seven historic players who have made a lasting impact on the development and prestige of South American football.
Following his retirement, he served as Director of Sporting Affairs at Atlético Nacional. Since December 2017, he has been a technical consultant for Los Angeles Football Club, where he focuses on building and developing talent networks across South America.
Ángel is also an entrepreneur and has worked as a sports analyst for DirecTV during the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil and for Telemundo during the World Cup in Russia. He has also contributed to major networks including TNT, Fox Sports, and ESPN.
