Ignacio Peña is the founder of Surfing Tsunamis, a think-and-do tank that catalyzes abundance, inclusion and regeneration through high-impact ideas, initiatives and startups. He is strategist, an innovation activist and an angel investor who is fluent in the worlds of innovative startups, large corporations and governments. He has a bold vision and a call to action for Latin America.
Recent initiatives include assisting disruptive Singularity University entrepreneurs, designing and putting in motion a strategy to turn Buenos Aires into an innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship hub, developing of an angel investor fund with a portfolio over 20 born-global startups ranging from artificial intelligence and nanosatellites to robotics and bioprinting. He also developed the first massive open online course (MOOC) on the art of creating startups in Latin America, published articles in international media and made dozens of presentations to the most demanding audiences.
Prior to that, Ignacio had over 15 years of experience as a strategic management consultant working for leaders of large corporations, governments, NGOs and industry associations. He was Partner and Managing Director at the Boston Consulting Group based in Brazil, where he led the strategy practice in Latin America. Previously he worked at Booz, Allen & Hamilton. He executed over 100 projects in over a dozen sectors throughout the hemisphere and was involved in M&A transaction worth over US$5B. He has deep experience in growth strategies, organization, corporate development and large transformations. He led an ambitious and successful project to design and begin the implementation of a strategy to consolidate Brazil as a business and investment hub in Latin America.
He holds an BSc in Economics from Universidad Católica Argentina, a MBA from the Wharton School and a MA in International Studies from the University of Pennsylvania.
