The New Order in Global Energy Markets

The emergence of new energy superpowers, the decline of old producers, the globalization of markets, and the constrains of climate change are all creating upheavals in the global energy markets. What awaits energy consumers, importers, and producers? How will be the impact on and of politics? Will shale and fracking persist? Is gas king? Will renewables take over? As the author of award winning book  “The New Geopolitics of Natural Gas (Harvard University Press”, Dr. Grigas discusses the rapidly changing global energy industry and the accompanying shifts in geopolitics and builds on her expertise in the American, European, Russian and Eurasian markets and politics.

Political Risks and Economic Opportunities in a Globalized World

With a volatile international environment and the rise of transnational risks and conflicts, understanding political and geopolitical risk has become more important than ever for corporations and organizations with a global reach. Military conflicts, rise of populism, pandemics, food insecurity, inflation, energy insecurity, climate change… These are just some of concerns governments, business, and citizens wrestle with every day. As a political risk analyst and consultant, Dr. Grigas shows how to mitigate risk and grasp opportunities in local, regional, and global contexts.

Russia-Ukraine: A Regional Conflict with Global Consequences

The Russia-Ukraine conflict which erupted in a full-blown war in 2022 has upended the post-Cold War era. As author of TIME magazine’s Top 9 books on Russia, “Beyond Crimea: The New Russian Empire” (Yale UP), Dr. Grigas demonstrates how this conflict is reconfiguring geopolitical alignments. European maps are re-drawn. Markets are divided. The energy and food sectors are in flux. The future of NATO, the European Union, Russia, Ukraine, and Eurasia is in question. What can we expect in the conflict? What are the implications? Why does this matter for governments, industries, and citizens worldwide?

Geopolitical Balancing and Alignment

Can countries still balance – politically and economically – between the United States and China? Until recently in a world dominated by the superpower of the United States (some would argue a declining power) and the rising superpower of China (in terms of its econo-my and population), many countries opted to balance in the middle. The Ukrainian Russian war drew red lines between Russia and the West. Moreover, this war has highlighted the growing global divide between the democracies and autocracies. Dr. Grigas discusses what can smaller, developed or developing nations expect in their efforts to balance be-tween the superpowers and rising superpowers in a globalized but at the same time divided world.

Globalized and Digitalized Education

You’re not taking that most popular Harvard online class yet? Your kid’s math tutor is not (yet) from Eastern Europe? Learning coding with India’s Byju’s teachers? Practicing piano with instructors from Juilliard? This is the reality for the increasingly globalized and digitalized education space. Parents today can hack their child’s education and take advantage of global opportunities. Whether it’s homeschooling in elementary years with support of global talent or enrolling into the Stanford Online High School, the options appear limitless. At the same time, the competition is now officially global for top university spots and in the global labor force. Dr. Grigas unpacks these rising trends for members of the education industry and for parents.
